====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== December 30, 2003 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: The Home School Legal Defense Association has launched a nationwide effort to mobilize a new generation of homeschoolers to stand up for freedom in America. The "Generation Joshua" Project is a bold effort to pass the torch of liberty to the young people we have been educating. Just as Moses led the Israelites into Egypt but Joshua led them into the Promised Land, so one generation of homeschooling parents must equip a new generation of homeschool students to keep freedom alive. Wyoming has taken the lead in this effort by establishing a political action committee for homeschooled teens. The "Young Patriots" are a group of homeschooled teens and their families that have united to support candidates who support freedom. The Young Patriots are organized as a Political Action Committee, which can endorse or oppose candidates. Homeschoolers are not millionaires, who can pay for expensive television commercials, but each dedicated young person who is willing to knock on doors or put up yard signs can make a big difference in a local legislative race. By harnessing the energy and enthusiasm of a new generation of homeschoolers, the Young Patriots can expect to have a significant impact on the Wyoming legislature. Young people who want to get involved in this new organization will need some specialized training. Teen Pact is an organization that trains young people to be effective citizens. Teen Pact has adopted a God-centered approach to teaching Christian youth about the operations of state government during the legislative session. Teen Pact is offering a one-week training session for Wyoming teenagers (13 and up) from February 16 through February 20 in Cheyenne. The cost is $169 per student, but there is a $20 discount for early registration. People who register by January 26 can attend for only $149. Applications are available on the Teen Pact website at www.teenpact.com. Cheryl Nichols would be happy to answer any questions about Teen Pact. Cheryl can be reached at 307-638-0507. HSLDA salutes Wyoming for seizing the opportunity to advance the cause of liberty in your state. Homeschoolers in 49 other states will be watching to see what Wyoming homeschoolers can accomplish!
