California member caught in truancy sweep The thirteen year old son of a member family in San Diego has been ordered to appear in juvenile court to face charges of violating the city's day time curfew. The police officer who issued the citation to appear in court, indicated that he was conducting truancy sweeps. HSLDA To Defend Illinois Homeschooler Part of HSLDA's charitable mission includes helping nonmembers in cases that could adversely affect all homeschoolers. To this end HSLDA is defending an Illinois homeschooler charged with truancy after a home visit from a school official. Arizona Families Gain Important New Protections Homeschoolers across the country have been working hard to make some small but important changes to the laws governing child abuse and neglect investigations. Problems with No Pass / No Drive Law in Kentucky Kentucky homeschoolers have clear rights under Kentucky's no pass/no drive law, which is designed to keep dropouts from driving. Homeschoolers are not dropouts and are permitted to use a simple letter to prove that they are operating a private school for their own children. Despite this, a number of families have encountered problems in various courthouses as they try to complete paperwork for a driver's license.
