====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== {{JoinAd}} October 15, 2003 Dear Wyoming HSLDA Members and Friends, Last year, when Senator Catherine Sessions filed three legislative attacks on home education, a handful of families in the Cheyenne area scrambled to respond. This year, homeschoolers across Wyoming are working hard, fast, and continuously to prevent Senator Sessions from carrying out her stated intent of enacting new homeschool regulations. On Saturday, October 13, homeschoolers in the Cheyenne area will have their single best opportunity to take a stand for homeschool freedom. On that day, the Wyoming Homeschool Legislative Watch "Legislative Reception" will take place at 2 p.m. at the Cheyenne Library. HSLDA strongly encourages every member family and friend to attend this meeting, with your well-behaved homeschooled child twelve years old and up, if possible. If you have small children, and cannot find a babysitter, please consider helping another family attend by offering to baby-sit their children. If you can baby-sit or need baby-sitting help, please contact Linda Heath, the Baby-sitting Coordinator for this event at sedge@ifriendly.com or (307) 547-3466. Your participation in this event matters greatly. If legislators see a small, disorganized group of families who cannot even manage their own households well, they will assume that it is easy to pass new homeschool laws. If, on the other hand, they see a large group of well-organized families, with bright and articulate teens who can explain why freedom matters so much to them, they will think twice before taking our liberties away. We recognize that mothers with nursing babies may not be able to attend this event. The situation is not so desperate at present that we feel the need to ask any mother to leave a nursing child to meet with legislators. If hostile homeschool regulations start moving during next year's legislative session, however, we may need to call upon this degree of sacrifice. It is important to limit the attendees to parents and teens. These legislators are used to dealing with certified teachers who prowl the halls of the Legislature with their "power suits" and cell phones. We need to show them that they are dealing with an equally serious, united, and disciplined group of homeschoolers if we are to win in January. For more information about the reception, contact Ray and Nicole Hohl at (307) 640-1216 and zookeeper7@bresnan.net, or Becky Vandeberghe at (307) 547-3785 and bvandeberghe@surfmk.com. Thank you for your commitment to homeschool freedom! By working hard and working together, we can preserve the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. Sincerely, Scott Somerville HSLDA Staff Attorney ====================================================================== The HSLDA E-lert Service is a service of: Home School Legal Defense Association P.O.
