====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== {{JoinAd}} October 15, 2003 Dear HSLDA Members and friends: The Farmington R-7 School District has developed a form, which parents are asked to sign when they begin homeschooling. The form states: I further understand...that I must maintain and make available for inspection at any time, upon the request of the Superintendent, any and all records and school work which I shall maintain to document my compliance...and, failing of such,...the Superintendent has the full right and authority to notify the office of the prosecuting attorney of such non-compliance. Families who homeschool are NOT required to fill out any form whatsoever. Furthermore, a local Superintendent does NOT have the right to demand access to homeschool records. However, if a family signs Farmington's form, an official may argue that consent was given and the Superintendent now has unrestricted access to their homeschool records. Families would be well-advised to reject the Farmington form. It is no coincidence that the method of education which provides the most freedom, homeschooling, is also the method of education where there is the greatest success. Efforts to take away homeschool freedom, must be resolutely opposed. We contacted the Farmington R-7 School District, and an official told us that signing this form is "voluntary." If you live in the Farmington area, you can help protect homeschool freedom by rejecting Farmington's form and encouraging others to do likewise.
