Dear HSLDA Member or friend:
Last week we informed you of a developing situation in Barnstable.
Here is an update from Jim & Rosanne Dooley.
The September 2nd Barnstable School Committee meeting went fairly
well. We presented information to support the inclusion of
homeschooled students in the high school athletic program. A few
people graciously spoke on our behalf and the school committee voiced
some questions and concerns. It was decided that the current policy
was too vague and that the matter needed to be investigated further.
The issue has been placed on the agenda for the September 16th
meeting. We plan to address the specific concerns raised and the
school committee requested that any current district policies
allowing homeschooled students to participate in extra-curricular
activities be forwarded to them.
We would like to thank all of you who responded to the previous e-
lert. It was noted by the chairman of the school committee meeting
that he had never received so many e-mails regarding one single
subject. Praise God! Thank you all for your efforts and prayers.
There was an article written in the sports section of The Barnstable
Patriot on September 5th and the letter by Scott Somerville was
included in the editorial section. Anyone can view these and/or
respond at www.barnstablepatriot.com.
If any of you live within a district that has a current homeschool
policy that allows participation for homeschoolers we need a copy.
