Take the Next Step with Patrick Henry College Distance Learning

HSLDA members are eligible for a 5% discount on PHC distance learning
tuition and there is still time to register. All applications must be
received by August 8. For distance learning, PHC requires that
applicants are at least 16 years old, that they are performing
academic work at least at the level of a high school junior, and that
their parents consider the applicants ready for college courses.

1. North Carolina Supreme Court Rules Against Social Worker
Investigation

In a long-awaited decision, the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled 7-
0 against the Department of Child Protective Services, declaring that
the department did not have a legitimate basis to even begin an
investigation of the Stumbo family.

2. Editorial: Homeschoolers Seek Equality

In his Washington Times editorial, HSLDA President J. Michael Smith
commends Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave (of Colorado) for introducing
a bill that strongly promotes homeschool freedom - H.R. 2732, The
Homeschool Non-Discrimination Act (HONDA).

3. Homeschoolers Succeed as Future Problem Solvers

Demonstrating their ability to "think outside the box," several
homeschooled young people from Iowa placed in the top 20 at the
Future Problem Solving International Competition, held June 4-8 at
the University of Connecticut.
