They have made an impact! Representative Capelo, the sponsor of the bill and the chairman of the Public Health Committee, confirmed for us today that this bill will probably not pass out of committee. The only way H.B. 89 will come before the full House is if the governor extends the call of this special session to include it. In the meantime, parents have the ability to claim a conscientious or religious exemption to immunization requirements. They no longer must abide by the restrictive requirement of proving that immunizations are against the tenants of their denomination or church.
