---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, We are passing along this message from Christian Communicators of Ohio. ===================================================================== MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY 800-900 VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED! BLESS OTHER HOME EDUCATORS WITH YOUR TIME Needed: Individuals aged 18 and over to help in judging the National Christian Forensics and Communications Assn. Speech and Debate Tournament Location: Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio. (Dayton/Springfield area) Dates: June 4-7, 2002. Come for a day, a 5-hour block of time, or multiple days. Training provided, no previous experience necessary. Background: Over 400 home school children ages 12-18 will compete in this tournament. Previous tournaments have been held in California, Texas, Virginia, and Tennessee. This is the first time for Ohio! The NCFCA league was started by Michael Farris' daughter, Christy Shipe and Home School Legal Defense Assn. about seven years ago. The tournament can only succeed with your help! Please contact Karen Coyle at coyle@iwaynet.net, or (614) 889-9252. to volunteer. [Perhaps you could stay with a relative or CHEO homeschool friend in the Columbus area.] Your older children are welcome to volunteer as timers and to be inspired by the best debates and speeches from all across the U.S. at this tournament! Competitions include Team Policy Debate, Lincoln- Douglas Debate, Extemporaneous, Impromptu, Original Oratory, Persuasive Speaking, Expository, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, and others. In addition, Christian Communicators of Ohio, the Ohio NCFCA Affiliate and Tournament host sponsor, will have a booth at the CHEO Convention. You will be able to sign up for hands-on summer workshops to learn more about speech and debate and receive information about how to start your own speech and debate club. Curriculum materials will be available for purchase to help you get started.
