---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ----------------------------------------------------------------------
April 28, 2003
Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,
Tomorrow is the day for the Homeschool Rally in Albany! This is the best opportunity you will have during this legislative session to demonstrate your support for needed changes to the homeschool law. Lawmakers must see thousands of freedom-loving homeschoolers on the grounds of the Capitol cheering in favor of much needed legislative reform.
Since there will be no public hearings on these bills, this event is our public hearing: a rally and visits to your assemblyman and senator. They must know the citizens of New York want more freedom this year!
The rally will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the west side of the Capitol building. There will be a handout for you to give to your assemblyman and senator.
Tom Washburne, Director of HSLDA's National Center for Home Education, will be speaking in support of Senate Bill 2060 and Assembly Bill 4598.
Last year, over 1200 homeschoolers turned out to the rally and lobbied the legislature with tremendous success. Last year's investment has made it a good possibility we can enact the homeschool freedom bill this year. But we need your attendance at this crucial event!
REQUESTED ACTION
(1) Attend the rally with your family. Make it a field trip for your children to see democracy at work in the New York State Capitol.
(2) We urge you to contact your state senator and assembly member with this important message:
"Please vote for Senate Bill 2060/Assembly Bill 4598 which will relieve public school officials and homeschooling parents from burdensome administrative tasks. Home educators have earned the right to regulatory relief after demonstrating their success under the current law for the past 15 years. Please attend the homeschool rally at the west side of the Capitol on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in support of this bill."
