---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- April 8, 2003 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Many homeschoolers have to deal with grandparents who disapprove of their home education. Now a new bill in Louisiana would subsidize grandparents who try to take custody away from their own children. We need your help to stop this bill. ACTION REQUESTED Please contact each member of the House Judiciary Committee and urge him or her to vote "No" on House Bill 935. Tell them, "Please vote against HB 935. Don't make it easier for grandparents away to take children away from loving parents." House of Representatives phone number: 225-342-7263 House Judiciary Committee members: Joseph F. Toomy, Chairman, larep085@legis.state.la.us Robert J. "Robby" Carter, Vice Chair, webreps@legis.state.la.us Thomas John Capella, webreps@legis.state.la.us Carla Blanchard Dartez, larep51@legis.state.la.us Robert R. "Bobby" Faucheux, Jr., webreps@legis.state.la.us Richard "Rick" Gallot, Jr., larep011@legis.state.la.us Alexander "Alex" Heaton, webreps@legis.state.la.us Michael Jackson, larep061@legis.state.la.us Cedric Richmond, webreps@legis.state.la.us Errol "Romo" Romero, larep048@legis.state.la.us Michael A. Walsworth, larep015@legis.state.la.us Yvonne Welch, larep067@legis.state.la.us Charlie DeWitt, webreps@legis.state.la.us Emile "Peppi" Bruneau, larep094@legis.state.la.us NOTE: If you choose to make contact by email, you MUST put the Representative's full name as the subject line of your email. BACKGROUND HB 935 would subsidize grandparents who go to court to demand custody or visitation. When grandparents disapprove of the way their children are educating their grandchildren, they often go to court. HB 935 would make Louisiana pay fifty percent of the court costs for such actions. This would constitute a crippling burden on parents who must defend themselves in court. We encourage all homeschoolers and other concerned parents to contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee to insist on a better solution to the problems of divorce. Very truly yours, Scott W.
