---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Home School Legal Defense Association is passing along the most recent information from John Carey of Christian Home Educators of West Virginia. Please continue to call your delegates and senators. You may find the names of your representatives by going to www.hslda.org/toolbox and entering your zip code. The battle is not yet won, but we are closer than ever. Very truly yours, Scott A. Woodruff HSLDA Staff Attorney Report from John Carey CHEWV - Legislative Coordinator Legislative Update - 3/7/03 - SB206 - The Homeschool Bill CAPITOL REPORT SB206 advanced to third reading with no amendments in the House today. It will be up for a final House vote Saturday at the morning session that begins at 11:00 AM. If it passes the final House vote, it will then be sent for a vote in the Senate. If the Senate decides to concur with the House version of SB206, one final vote will be taken; and it will be ready for the Governor's signature. HOMESCHOOL YOUTH TO PERFORM In addition to a vote on SB206, a highly talented violinist and homeschool youth, 13-year-old Charles Morey, will be playing his violin for the entire House during the morning session. This promises to be a very memorable session. Please remember that your presence really matters. Those who oppose us are not about to give up the fight in either House. Behind the scenes, they are still working against us. BACKGROUND As has been reported earlier, SB181 the Senate version was inserted into SB206 at a House Education Committee meeting Thursday evening. This bill is now identical to the Senate version of SB181, which was passed by unanimous consent in the Senate earlier in the session. This is why we are now asking all families to show their support for the House Substitute for SB206. If at all possible, please try to make it on Saturday. Parking on Saturday is free in the parking lot surrounding the capitol, so you will probably not need to park at Laidley Field although this is quite close as well. Your presence does matter. The entire homeschool community needs the help of those who come on Saturday. Please arrive before 11:00 if at all possible. We will meet in front of the House Chamber. If you cannot come, please be ready to make phone calls after the vote on Saturday. A map of the capitol complex can be found at www.chewv.org. {{JoinAd}} ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The HSLDA E-lert Service is a service of: Home School Legal Defense Association P.O.
