---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- March 7, 2003 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Less than a week ago, the West Virginia Education Committee of the House of Delegates took SB 181, a good bill that CHEWV and HSLDA supported, and turned it into an ugly "Frankenstein," adding four distinct repressive features. In a whirlwind meeting last night, however, the committee unanimously restored the bill to the good version that passed the senate! A turnaround this breathtaking is almost unheard of. God has turned the hearts of delegates, we believe, in the direction of bringing a blessing to the homeschool community. The homeschoolers of West Virginia are to be thanked for their tireless support. You responded with prayer and determination. You filled the capitol and flooded the telephone lines. ACTION REQUESTED The bill is now known as the Committee Substitute for SB 206. It is no longer called "SB 181." When it goes to the house floor, there will be an opportunity for the enemies of freedom to amend it. Please: 1) Come to the state capitol today and fill the house galleries to help intensify our momentum. Those opposing our freedom have no intention of backing down. 2) Call your delegate with this NEW message: "Please vote in favor of the Committee Substitute for SB 206 without any amendments. It will remove arbitrary barriers to homeschooling." 3) You can go to our website at www.hslda.org/toolbox and enter your zip code to find the name and contact information for your delegate. You can also call 304-340-3200 and the House switchboard can connect you with your delegate. THANK YOU for shouldering the burden to bring the blessing of greater freedom to us and our posterity. Very truly yours, Scott A.
