---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- March 6, 2003 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, The vote on SB 181 did not occur this morning. We anticipate it will occur tonight during a session beginning at 7 PM or tomorrow during a session beginning at 11 AM. ACTION REQUESTED 1. Call your delegate today or tomorrow and ask him to support Delegate Williams' floor amendment to SB 181, and if the amendment passes, to support the bill. Your message may be as simple as, "Please support Delegate Williams' floor amendment to SB 181, and if it passes, please support the bill. Without the amendment, please oppose the bill, because it would take away many important freedoms and give bureaucrats arbitrary power over families." 2. We cannot accept merely changing the House Education Committee version. It creates so many problems for homeschool families that it must be replaced with the Senate version. 3. Come to the state capitol tonight or tomorrow and help fill the House gallery. The forceful presence of hundreds of homeschoolers will send a loud and clear message to the delegates. Three hundred and fifty homeschoolers were at the capitol today and we hope for even more tonight and tomorrow! 4. Pass this email along to every homeschool family you know as well as every person you know who respects individual rights. This is not our battle alone. 5. You can go to our website at www.hslda.org/toolbox and enter your zip code to find the name and contact information for your delegate. You can also call (304) 340-3200 and the House switchboard can connect you with your delegate. BACKGROUND We are in an intense battle over the future of home education in West Virginia. Homeschool families by the hundreds are asking for greater freedom. Teacher's unions are resisting bitterly, hoping not only to prevent homeschool families from having greater freedom, but to bring more restrictions to homeschooling than ever before. The efforts of every West Virginia homeschool family are needed for freedom to win! To every family who has called and gone to the capitol to be a presence, we say thank you! To those who have not yet joined the battle, we say we need you! Today is the day! Very truly yours, Scott A.
