---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- February 21, 2003 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Senate Bill 181, which would abolish the four-year rule, is under attack from those who want to restrict homeschool freedom. It is crucial that homeschoolers counter this attack by coming to the state capitol and demonstrating their support for the bill. ACTION REQUESTED Please come to the state capitol building Tuesday, February 25, and arrive before the morning session begins at 11:00 A.M. If at all possible, call your delegate in advance and arrange an appointment to talk with him or her. To find the name of your delegate, go to our legislative toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox. It is especially important that you meet with your delegate if he or she is on the education committee. BACKGROUND West Virginia is the only state in the country with the unusual requirement that a parent have four years more formal education than the child who is being homeschooled. The legislature has waived this rule for the past three years, but we need a permanent removal of the rule, not simply a waiver. Christian Home Educators of West Virginia and Home School Legal Defense Association are working in concert on this matter.
