---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- February 13, 2003 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Rather than voting on HB 2404, the Virginia Senate Education Committee (Sen. Russell Potts, Chairman) transferred the bill to the Senate Transportation Committee. The Transportation Committee is expected to take action on the bill at 2:00 PM today! ACTION REQUESTED Please call each Transportation Committee member and give him this message: "Please vote in favor of H.B. 2404. Vote to give homeschool parents the choice to teach their children how to drive." Transportation Committee members: SEN. JOHN WATKINS - 804-698-7510 in Richmond, 804-379-2063 in Midlothian, or e-mail jnwatkins@aol.com (It would be best if he heard from constituents in his district, which includes all of Amelia and Powhatan Counties; parts of Chesterfield, Cumberland, Goochland, and Henrico Counties; and part of Richmond City.) SEN. MALFOURD "BO" TRUMBO - 804-698-7522 in Richmond, 540-473-2781 in Fincastle, or e-mail mtrubmbo@sov.state.va.us. (It would be best if he heard from constituents in his district, which includes all of Botetourt County; parts of Montgomery and Roanoke Counties; and all of Radford and Salem Cities.) SEN. WALTER STOSCH - 804-698-7512 in Richmond, 804-527-7780 in Glen Allen, or e-mail rayoub@stosch.com. (It would be best if he heard from constituents in his district, which includes parts of Goochland and Henrico Counties, and a part of Richmond City.) SEN. HENRY MARSH - 804-698-7516 in Richmond, 804-648-9073 at his local office in Richmond, or e-mail district16@sov.state.va.us. (It would be best if he heard from constituents in his district, which includes parts of Chesterfield and Prince George Counties; all of Dinwiddie County and Petersburg City; and parts of Hopewell and Richmond Cities. Tell him that Sens. Lambert and Puckett are co- patrons, as well as Dels. Councill and Stump, and that Sens. Lucas and Houck are supporting it.) BACKGROUND H.B. 2404 passed the house with strong bi-partisan support. Twenty- two Democrats voted in favor of the bill. A handful of Republicans voted against it. Virginia law already allows homeschool parents to teach the classroom portion of driver education.
