Homeschoolers Help Special Needs Children

Frustrated with the school's inability to realize the true nature of
her son's health situation, Christine Gibbs pulled her son from all
his public school programs and brought him home. With the

On September 11, 2002, Home School Legal Defense Association once
again stood before the California Court of Appeals, defending
homeschoolers' rights to move about freely.

2. Keeping an Eye on CEDAW

CEDAW passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in July and is
now before the full U.S. Senate for consideration. As yet no action
has been taken, but HSLDA is closely monitoring its status.

3. Education Tax Deduction Update

After the United States House of Representatives passed the measure
that allowed for H.R. 5193 to come to the House floor, the final
debate and vote on the bill was postponed.

4. Social Security's New Home School Flow Chart

For some years, the Social Security Administration has permitted home
schoolers to receive benefits in some cases. Yet, the agency used a
fuzzy test involving several different factors.

5. Alabama: Can a Homeschool Operate Under a Home Church?

HSLDA sometimes receives inquiries from members in Alabama about the
