---------------------------------------------------------------------- From Patrick Henry College... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- May 2002 Dear PHC Prayer Partners, "You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men, being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts. And such confidence we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming form ourselves, but our adequacy is from God." (II Corinthians 3:2-5) Greetings from Patrick Henry College as we are now in the final month of our spring semester and second academic year! Thank you for your faithful prayers, which have carried us this far. The PHC campus is a whirl of activity as students begin to prepare for finals exams. Our drama club, the Eden Troupe, recently completed its first production with great success. They performed Shakespeare's As You Like It on three consecutive evenings in March for over 400 people. Our debate team had its best performance to date at the national tournament last month. We praise God for the work He is doing in the faculty, staff, and student body here at a time when conflict rages throughout the world. Our concerns seem insignificant in comparison, but we are reminded that spiritual conflict affects us all regardless of our geography. Pray for purity of heart and mind as we seek to be servants of Christ, each other, and the world. Accreditation We are awaiting word from the American Academy for Liberal Education (AALE), which met on Saturday, April 20, to determine our accreditation status. Please pray for a favorable outcome. Students Please pray for the health of the students. They are especially susceptible now as they stay up studying into the early morning hours. Pray also that they would get adequate rest, despite the heavy workload. Pray that they would be able to give all their labors and the results thereof to the Lord, and rest in His peace. Pray that they would maintain their vision in the midst of the immediate pressure of exams. Pray that their relationship with God remains their highest priority. Please pray also for the students and families who are seeking God's direction about whether to attend PHC. Pray for wisdom and discernment for the Admissions Committee as members review applications and interview candidates for admission. We currently have over 100 applications on file, with 55 students having already made deposits for next year. The average SAT of all accepted students who have either committed to attend PHC or who are still considering is just under 1300. Also, the class of 2002, consisting of 14 graduates, will participate in PHC's very first graduation ceremony, which will take place on May 25. Pray for good weather as the commencement exercises are planned as an outdoor event on campus. Pray also for guidance and peace as our graduates prepare to enter the next stage of their life calling - be that graduate school, the workplace, or some other endeavor. Faculty Pray that all faculty hired will be able to find suitable housing in the area and that their moves would go smoothly. We continue to search for a part-time Spanish instructor and a full-time biblical studies instructor. Operations Construction has started on our new dorm, which will house 88 students. The delivery date for this new facility is December 2002. Please pray that the work will remain on schedule and that our students will remain positive despite some short-term inconveniences during the fall semester. Fund Raising Our commitment to avoid both debt and any form of government funding means that we continue to rely heavily on donations as a primary source of revenue for the College. Since January, we have focused most of our fund raising efforts on the dorm project, and we praise God that those efforts are paying off. However, we still need approximately $550,000 by June 30, 2002 to meet this year's scholarship budget. Scholarships represent our second largest financial obligation next to capital improvements. Please pray that we will continue to raise the funds necessary to keep Patrick Henry College on track to train those who will lead our nation and shape our culture. "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-21) Thank you for your prayers!
