---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- April 12, 2002 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, For a long time, home schoolers in Pennsylvania have struggled under the current home school law. We at HSLDA represent hundreds of families each year who are challenged by superintendents misapplying this cumbersome home school statute. Now we have the opportunity to significantly roll back these controls through legislation that is expected to be introduced by April 15. Meanwhile, a home school rally and lobbying day will take place on April 15, 2002 and HSLDA attorney Dewitt Black will be speaking. We urge you to attend this important rally in order to show the Pennsylvania legislature that home schooling works and that you have earned the right to be left alone. A large turnout is crucial to make an impact. I just returned from New York, where 1,200 home schoolers attended a rally at the capitol in favor of a home school bill that will end 75% of the state's regulation on home schoolers. The families also lobbied the entire legislature helping move the home school bill forward. Pennsylvanians should be able to match this attendance on Monday in Harrisburg! REQUESTED ACTION We urge you to attend the "Rally in the Rotunda" on April 15 in Harrisburg as home educators from all over the commonwealth let the legislature know the benefits of home education. The rally is set 10:30am to 12:30pm.
