From the HSLDA E-lert Service...

March 28, 2002

Dear New York Members and Friends,

We are pleased to announce that Home School Legal Defense Association
will be attending a home school rally hosted by the New York state
home school organization Loving Education at Home (LEAH). We urge you
to attend the LEAH rally on Wednesday, April 10, 2002. The rally will
start at 1:00 p.m. sharp on the capitol steps in Albany and Chris
Klicka, HSLDA Senior Counsel, will be speaking. A strong showing is
crucial for the successful passage of Senate Bill 4767. We urge you
to visit your state assemblyman and senator before or after the

Unfortunately, S.B. 4767 did not make it to the floor yesterday as we
had hoped. The Senate will be in recess until April 8, 2002, which
gives home educators more time to call or write their senators. S.B.
4767 is expected to come up for a vote when the Senate returns from

1) We strongly urge you to attend the LEAH Rally on Wednesday, April
10, 2002, AND visit your state assemblymen and senator while you are
at the capitol.

2) Contact your state assemblymen and senator with this three-part

a) "Please vote for Senate Bill 4767, which will relieve public
school officials and home schooling parents from burdensome
administrative tasks. Home educators have earned the right to
regulatory relief after demonstrating their success under the current
law for the past 14 years." To get the name and telephone number of
your state senator or assemblymen, use HSLDA's Legislative Toolbox
at: You can also call the Senate and
Assembly offices. The Senate number is 518-455-2800 and the Assembly
number is 518-455-4100.

b) "Please attend a home school rally at 1:00 on Wednesday, April 10,
2002, at the capitol steps in support of this bill."

c) "Since my family is coming to Albany, I would like to make an
appointment to meet with you."

3) Sign the Petition of Support for S.B. 4767 at:
Ask your friends, family, fellow employees, and church members to
sign the petition as well. You can also print out the petition and
circulate copies. We will present the petitions to Senator John Kuhl,
(the Senate Education Committee Chairman and sponsor of S.B. 4767) on
April 10 at the rally.

If you have any questions about the rally, contact LEAH at 315-637-

If you come to lobby before the rally, stop and see the LEAH
representatives right inside the State Street doors of the
Legislative Office Building across from the capitol. They will
provide you with stickers and a handout.

In the case of inclement weather, the rally will be held in a Senate
Hearing Room. The LEAH representatives will direct you to the
appropriate location.
