---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- March 5, 2002 Dear Vermont Members and Friends, On Friday morning, March 8, 2002, Home School Legal Defense Association will be representing a member family (name withheld to protect their privacy) against a Vermont Department of Education (DOE) challenge of their home school. Earlier this year, the family submitted their "independent professional evidence of lack of handicap" (as required by Vermont home school law) without disclosing the professional's method of screening. The DOE rejected their submission, in essence telling the family they could not home school their children. In light of the Vermont Supreme Court's 2000 ruling that the state DOE has no such "approval" authority over home schools, the DOE's latest demand for the method of screening and rejection of this family's home school appears to be the DOE's latest attempt to reclaim "approval" power. Please unite with us in prayer this week, especially Friday morning, asking God to protect Vermont parents' right to educate their children at home free from government intervention.
