Author and home school trailblazer Dorothy Moore, wife of Dr. Raymond
Moore, passed away on February 21 at the age of 89.

2. Campaign Finance Bill Update

The Campaign Finance Reform bill, House Resolution 2356, passed in
the House of Representatives in the wee hours of the morning of
February 14, 2002. The bill went through some modifications, but it
does not appear that the free speech issues raised by HSLDA and
others regarding vague definitions were addressed.

3. No Warrant, No Entry in Rhode Island

Knowing their constitutional rights and refusing to be intimidated by
a persistent social worker, one Home School Legal Defense member
family averted a potentially traumatic investigation.

4. Vermont Bill Would Eliminate Notification "Bermuda Triangle"

A bill introduced in Vermont, House Bill 703, would prevent the
Commissioner of Education from delaying home school enrollment.

5. Illinois Bill Lowers Compulsory Attendance Age From 7 to 6

Last year, your diligent calls opposing H. 795 which would lower the
compulsory attendance age from 7 to 6 stopped the bill dead in the
Senate Rules Committee. Unfortunately, the bill has risen from the
dead with a new sponsor.
