---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- February 26, 2002 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Doug Domenech, former Executive Director for the National Center for Home Education who is now working for the Department of Interior, forwarded HSLDA the following information. This is a great opportunity for you and your family to learn more about American history and exploration of the American West. Field Trip Opportunity: In 1803, Thomas Jefferson commissioned Lewis and Clark to explore the far reaches of western America. Many believe that this expedition was the greatest adventure in the history of our country. In 2003, America will celebrate the bicentennial of this great saga with a three-year recognition. Dr. Hal Stearns, one of the country's foremost authorities on the Lewis and Clark expedition, will present a lecture on Thursday, February 28 at 10:00 AM in the Yates Auditorium in the main Department of the Interior Building at 1849 C Street, NW in Washington. Dr. Stearns will make history come alive. This lecture is open to the public. If your home schooled child is interested in history, you might want to consider taking a field trip to Washington to hear this great historian retell the adventure of bravery. If you have questions, contact Robbie Wilbur at 202-208-1923.
