1. First Amendment Liberties at Stake: Calls Needed Before Wednesday

This week, the House of Representatives will take up the Shays-Meehan
Campaign Reform Bill, House Resolution 2356. This legislation will
make numerous changes to the laws governing the financing of
campaigns and election practices. In its current form, the bill will
severely hinder the ability of advocacy groups, such as local and
state home school organizations, from discussing issues with their
elected federal senators and representatives.

2. Veteran Loses Benefits for Home Schooling Son After Age 18

Decorated combat veteran and home schooling father George Theiss lost
some disability benefits for teaching his son at home past the age of
18. HSLDA is appealing this new discriminatory Veterans'
Administration policy.

3. Czech Parliament Says "Enough E-mails!"

Last week, over 800 HSLDA member families e-mailed the 200 members of
the Czech Parliament---totaling more than 150,000 e-mails in less
than 24 hours in support of the Czech home schooling movement. A
Prague newspaper reported that the parliament e-mail server was shut
down by the volume of messages coming in on the home school issue!

4. Mississippi Legislature Considers Religious Liberty Bill

Mississippi State Senator Richard White has filed a bill that all
religious freedom advocates should support. Home School Legal Defense
Association strongly supports this measure, which we believe
accurately reflects the goal of the Founding Fathers in protecting
religious liberty.
