---------------------------------------------------------------------- From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- January 23, 2002 Dear New Hampshire Members and Friends, Every chair was filled, and there was standing room only when the Children and Family Law Committee conducted a hearing on January 22, 2001, on House Bill 1408. The home schoolers present overwhelmingly opposed the measure, which would give each city and town in the state the freedom to enact its own truancy law. Many spoke out against H.B. 1408, including Christian Home Educators of New Hampshire President Jim Parison. Members of the committee seemed skeptical regarding the need for this bill and asked the sponsor, Kathleen Taylor (D-District 11, Strafford County), some very tough questions. Home School Legal Defense Association is cautiously optimistic that the committee will vote to kill this bill. Thank you for calling to voice your opinion and for attending the hearing! Your contribution was crucial. Sincerely yours, Scott A. Woodruff, Esq. 1/18/02 E-lert on H.B. 1408: http://www.hslda.org/elert/archive/2002/01/20020118163411.asp Read text of H.B. 1408 at: http://gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2002/hb1408.html {{JoinAd}} ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The HSLDA E-lert Service is a service of: Home School Legal Defense Association P.O.
