1. Kansas City Letter Concerns Home Schoolers

In a letter printed in the Hesston Record, the local school board
president erroneously suggested that all home schoolers are truant.
HSLDA responded to clarify state attendance law.

2. Congress Finally Yanks Goals 2000 Spending

When Congress passed the Fiscal Year 2002 Education Appropriations
bill, it gave Goals 2000 only enough money to shut down for good.
HSLDA is pleased that Congress has taken the final step in
eliminating Goals 2000.

3. Model State Emergency Health Powers Act

HSLDA believes that, as drafted, the Model State Emergency Health
Powers Act could pose a threat to family privacy and freedoms.
Possibilities include mandating immunization, restricting travel, and
confiscating firearms.

4. HSLDA Reviews Anti-Terrorism Legislation

HSLDA's review of the recent anti-terrorism legislation found that it
will not directly impact parental freedoms or the ability to home
school.
