Georgia County Requires Proof of High School Diplomas

Georgia's Madison County recently demanded that all home schooling parents in the district immediately send a copy of their high school diploma to the school district office.

Since Georgia home school parents are not required to submit this information, many member families quickly contacted Home School Legal Defense Association for assistance. We contacted the home school coordinator for the district, explaining that state education law is very clear on what information home school families must provide to the school district, and that the law does not authorize any district to require extra information. Since parents do not have to submit diplomas, we informed him that we had advised our member families not to give this information.

Forms designed by HSLDA to give the school district only the information required by law are available here. Any member whose district asks for more than the form for Georgia provides, should contact our office immediately.
