National Home School Leadership Summit a Success

WASHINGTON D.C.—Between March 28 and March 30, nearly 100 state home school leaders participated in the National Home School Leadership Summit in Washington, DC, sponsored by HSLDA's National Center for Home Education. Leaders attended a legislative briefing on Thursday morning and heard from Majority Whip, Tom Delay, Senator George Allen (VA), House Education and Workforce Committee Chairman John Boehner (OH), Senator Tim Hutchison (AR) and several other congressmen. All gave a positive outlook on the 107th Congress and President Bush. Many testified of their faith in Jesus Christ.

On Thursday and Friday afternoon, state leaders lobbied their congressman on a myriad of issues but focused primarily on the Marriage Tax Penalty Relief Bill (H.R. 6) and key provisions to protect home schoolers in the "No Child Left Behind" education bill (H.R. 1).

Leaders attended a private one-hour briefing held Friday morning at a White House office building. Tim Goeglein, Special Assistant to the President, William D. Hansen, Deputy Secretary of Education and Don Eberly, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives addressed the leaders and answered questions about Bush's education plan and faith-based initiative proposal.
