No, this isn’t an April Fool’s Day joke. Brave members of Congress are actually pushing to eliminate all federal funding for the Common Core State Standards Initiative. And we need your urgent phone calls to help make this happen.

As appropriations season heats up and members of Congress work on funding the federal government, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley and Iowa Representative Steve King are asking their colleagues to sign onto a letter to members of both Appropriations Committees, asking the committees to stop any federal funds from being used to incentivize the states to adopt—or keep—the Common Core. As parents across the nation have fought to withdraw their state from the Common Core, one of the most common responses is that rejecting the Common Core would cause the state to lose federal funds. If Senator Grassley and Representative King are successful in ending federal support for the Common Core, many more states will likely withdraw from the Common Core.

The deadline for members of the House and Senate to sign onto these letters to the Appropriations Committees is 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 3. It is crucial that you contact your UnitedStates /OR/ federal representative and two U.S. senators as soon as possible and urge them to sign onto this letter. The more members who sign onto these letters, the more likely it is that Congress will act to end federal support for the Common Core.

You can reach your members of Congress by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121, or you can use HSLDA’s legislative toolbox to put in your address and find your members of Congress and their phone numbers. Your message can be as simple as the following:

“I strongly oppose the Common Core standards, and do not want the federal government using federal funds to support this controversial program. Please sign onto the Grassley letter [if you are calling your senators] or Steve King letter [if you are calling your U.S. Representative] to members of the Appropriations Committee which urges Congress to end federal funds in support of the Common Core. States, not the federal government, should decide what is best for their education system.”

Please note that Senators Pat Roberts (KS) and Jim Inhofe (OK) have signed onto the Senate letter, and Representatives Walter B. Jones (NC), Rob Bishop (UT), Tim Huelskamp (KS), Paul Cook (CA), James Lankford (OK), Randy Hultgren (IL), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Louie Gohmert (TX), and Trent Franks (AZ) have signed onto the House letter.

Thank you for your help in this crucial battle. We encourage you to share this information with other freedom loving parents, and if they are unaware of the dangers of the Common Core, then we encourage you to share with them our new documentary at www.commoncoremovie.com
