HSLDA’s Federal Relations Department
December 5, 2008

Come to the Third Annual CAP Training Day!

Now that the election season is over, it is time to get involved in the congressional process and educate the new congress about the benefits of homeschooling and the importance of parental rights. HSLDA’s Congressional Action Program (CAP) teaches our members how to effectively interact with Congress and facilitates lobbying days for families to visit key members of Congress and encourage them to stand up for homeschool freedoms!

All families must attend a CAP training day before joining us for lobbying on the Hill. The next CAP training and preparation day will be Monday, January 12, 2009, at Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, VA. We will start at 10:30 a.m., take a break for lunch at noon, and then wrap up by 3:30 p.m.

Our training day will prepare you for our upcoming CAP on the Hill lobbying days in Washington, D.C., which will begin in early February. We will have current CAP members share some of their lobbying experiences and tips for what works (and what does not!), and we will brief you on the political issues we wish to discuss with congressional legislators and staffers.

How Do I Sign Up?

1. To participate in the CAP training day, each family must be members of HSLDA and complete the CAP application form.

2. This is a great time to invite friends to join HSLDA and get involved in CAP lobbying! They will also need to fill out a CAP registration form.

3. Cost: There is a fee of $15 per family to help subsidize lunch expenses. However, if you have paid to attend any of the previous CAP training days, the fee is waived.

If you have any questions, please visit our CAP website, or contact Amy Lynne Eardley at CAP@hslda.org or (540) 338-5600.

Thank for standing with us for freedom.

Very truly yours,

J. Michael Smith, Esq.
President, HSLDA
