Issue Description There are two homeschool issues that HSLDA has traditionally dealt with in the realm of the U.S. military. One concerns what requirements must be followed by military families that homeschool, and what access they have to extracurricular activities in Department of Defense schools (DoDEA). The second issue is the process required for homeschool students who attempt to enlist in one of the military services. Issue History The military has generally maintained a friendly atmosphere for homeschoolers, although there have been occasions when increased regulations have been considered. As recently as 2001, Pentagon officials attempted to establish new requirements for homeschoolers to follow. With the help of the White House, HSLDA was able to stop this plan. Since that time we have experienced little trouble with military authorities. In fact, the DoDEA recently issued a new policy allowing homeschoolers equal access to Department of Defense schools without having to go through the normal registration procedures.
