Testing - State
Issue Background
For many states, standardized testing is an integral part of the requirements for homeschoolers. This was especially true for the "first draft" homeschool laws in a majority of the 50 states. Since that time, however, the testing requirements have been slowly whittled away, until now only nine states require standardized testing with no alternative form of evaluation. A new threat has arisen, however, with recent developments in the concept of a national test mandated by the Federal government.
Issue Description
This issue involves not only fighting to remove testing requirements in state law, but also watching states carefully to make sure that they do not include homeschoolers in their implementation of a national test.
