Issue Description Issue Background Although these goals appeared safe and supportive of education, many conservatives, including homeschoolers, and HSLDA identified dangerous pitfalls in Goals 2000. HSLDA kept a wary eye on Goals 2000 from it's beginning and over the next several years, taking every opportunity available to protest and encourage congressional opposition to the program. Finally, the House and Senate leadership and President Clinton reached an agreement on the 1999 appropriations bill, which included an amendment ending all Goals 2000 funding to the states and officially repealing key sections of the Goals 2000 after September 2000.
