College Sports
As homeschooling has become more popular, the number of student athletes being homeschooled has increased. Because the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) was not accustomed to clearing homeschoolers for eligibility, difficulties arose when homeschool graduates were recruited for college sports teams.
Recognizing this problem, HSLDA worked with the NCAA to create specific guidelines for homeschool student eligibility. Since these guidelines have been in place, approximately 2,0001 homeschooled students a year have been able to complete the eligibility process and play on NCAA teams. In fact, the NCAA Eligibility Center now has a separate “Home School Office.” HSLDA has also interacted with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) regarding eligibility guidelines for homeschoolers.
