EUROPEAN COURT THREATENS HOMESCHOOLING

Purcellville, Va.—The European Court on Human Rights has ruled that parents do not have the fundamental right to homeschool their children. “This is one of the worst rulings in the history of homeschooling,” said Chris Klicka, Senior Counsel of Home School Legal Defense Association.

The ruling means that all 25 states in the European Union could act to ban homeschooling. This is already the case in Germany where at least 40 families are being prosecuted. It has reached the point in Germany where state authorities are jailing parents, levying heavy fines, invading homes, and forcibly taking children to public school.

“The ruling is a turn towards the dark days of the European past,” said Klicka. Most of these families are Christians and Germany is openly persecuting Christian families. If the other states follow the German example we may see families fleeing the persecution and seeking asylum in America.

Furthermore, since the U.S. Supreme Court often relies on foreign courts to support its interpretation of the U.S. Constitution we could see this terrible idea applied in America.

Homeschoolers must be vigilant in defense of their freedoms because we are just one U.S. Supreme Court ruling away from losing our fundamental right to home educate.
