Being a mom is a lot of work, but it brings great rewards! How does mothering look once your children start to leave the nest? Today on Home School Heartbeat with HSLDA President Mike Smith, one mom reflects on the new joys of seeing her children taking flight.
Mike Smith:
This week, on our special mother’s day programs, we’ve visited with moms at various stages of life. Today, Amy Schneider joins me. Amy, welcome to the program!
Amy Schneider:
Thank you for having me!
Mike:
Amy, as a homeschool mom, you’ve invested a lot in your family. Now that your kids are out of the house, what’s the best part of being an “empty nest” mom?
Amy:
Well Mike, I have to confess that after the time of commitment of raising our children and homeschooling them, I really am enjoying some freedom as an empty-nester! I do miss the kids, I do miss the adventures that we’ve had together, but now I have some more time on my hands; and I’m able to pursue some projects that I’ve put on the back burner while I was raising them and homeschooling them. And my husband and I have also had some opportunities to do some travelling.
But I have to say probably the greatest joy in this new season of life is really seeing the hard work that I invested in the kids pay off, because now they’e independent, they’re hardworking young adults, and they love the Lord and they’re following His will for their lives. So I’d have to say that’s probably the greatest reward of all in this new season of life.
Mike:
Well Amy, I think we can all agree we’d love to see that for ourselves as well, as parents. And thanks for sharing that with us today! It’s great to hear your perspective. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
