How much do you value motherhood? Would you choose it even over a prestigious career? Today on Home School Heartbeat, with HSLDA President Mike Smith, hear from one mom who worked to the top of her field-and then heard the call of motherhood.
Mike Smith:
Today my guest is Kristin Brodowski, a mom who adopted her two daughters after an 18-year career at NASA. Kristin, welcome to the program!
Kristin Brodowski:
Thanks for having me, Mike!
Mike:
Well, you’re very welcome. Kristin, you left a job as a senior executive at NASA to become a mom. Why did you choose motherhood over a career that many people would spend a lifetime to get?
Kristin:
It was really a God thing. I met my husband, Bob, relatively late in life. And at that point, I was well established already as a senior executive at NASA. As significant and exciting as that seemed, I knew that these efforts had no lasting eternal value. So after some soul-searching and much prayer, I really found I was ready to give up the challenge and the prestige and the money for the joy of raising a little girl to know her Savior. And so in 1997, Bob and I traveled to China to adopt our dear Emma, and in 1999, we brought home Emma’s sister, Corinne. So Mike, this is how I like to describe the career of motherhood: the pay is lousy, but the benefits are fantastic!
Mike:
Well Kristin, that’s an amazing perspective! Thanks for sharing that. Thank you for sharing with our listeners! We wish you and the many other adoptive moms listening a very happy mother’s day! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
