As a homeschooling parent, you may be overwhelmed by the number of high school programs promising academic advancement for your student. Mike Farris joins HSLDA President Mike Smith on today’s Home School Heartbeat to discuss a truly distinctive college prep program—the Patrick Henry College Preparatory Academy.
Mike Smith:
Mike, the PHC Prep Academy is a new project where HSLDA and Patrick Henry College are teaming up to provide AP classes for homeschoolers. There are quite a few AP and college prep options out there already-what makes the PHC Prep Academy distinctive?
Mike Farris:
The association with Patrick Henry College guarantees the families that there’s going to be a high level of academic rigor and an absolute bedrock foundation on the Word of God. We believe that there is absolutely necessary for there to be a blend on Christian worldview and rigor to really bring out the excellence in Christ that we want to see in all of our students, whether that’s students at the college or in this prep academy. And so people are looking for this level of academic excellence and a certainty that their children are going to be getting a Christian worldview would be interested in coming into this program.
Also, there really aren’t that many programs that are available to homeschoolers on a broad range of AP courses and it’s our intention to have, in the next few years, a very broad range of selections so that families can have even more choices and get quite a bit of college credit during the high school years. It’s hard work, but it’s certainly worth it.
Mike Smith:
Mike, we agree with you! The PHC Prep Academy is going to be a terrific resource for homeschoolers! Thanks for telling our listeners about it. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
