Do you think of storytelling as simply entertainment to be fit into your schedule if you have time? Join us today on Home School Heartbeat as Mike Smith discusses the value of making time for stories.
Children love stories.
Jesus told stories. People hung on every word of His parables. His stories taught spiritual lessons that shared God’s wisdom.
The Bible teaches us to be conformed to the image of Christ. One way we can do this is by telling stories. We can communicate the way Jesus did, telling our children about God’s truth with parables and stories.
Listening to stories helps children develop a love of learning. When they learn to read themselves, their interest in good stories will lead them to appreciate biographies, history, and other literature.
As your children grow up, they must understand the high place that the Word of God holds in their lives. But they must understand how to apply their Christian worldview to the art of literature. In John 17, Jesus tells us to be in the world and not of the world. We must teach our children about literature in a manner that honors God.
Many of us don’t have time to make up our own stories. But we all have time to talk to our children, or relate a story we've heard or a personal experience. Young children are excited to hear the stories of our childhood and the lessons we’ve learned. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
