Mike Smith:
My guest today is Elena Schuenemeyer, who homeschools her four children. Elena, how does homeschooling allow you and your husband to model Christianity for your children?
Elena Schuenemeyer:
Well, I believe that homeschooling has allowed us the opportunity to spend a large amount of time with our four kids, and you know I think that this time is essential for a discipleship relationship spelled out for us as the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 28:19–20. And Ken and I were quite blessed really, in our early twenties, to spend some time with some dear missionary friends that taught us biblical principles about discipleship in the areas of spending time in God’s Word and in prayer and maintaining fellowship with believers, and really sharing our faith with the unbelieving world. And as we modeled these four areas to our children in our everyday life, we began to see how they incorporated them into their own lives. Homeschooling provides the opportunity to build relationships and learning experiences with our children that we really wouldn’t have had otherwise. Ken and I have always included our children as we’ve journeyed with our Lord Jesus Christ, and believe that that’s probably the most important thing that we could teach our children.
