Mike Smith:
Today I’m joined by Leah Garber, who was homeschooled from kindergarten through high school. She graduated from college and now works for HSLDA. Leah, how did homeschooling allow your parents to teach you about what was most important to them—their relationship with Jesus Christ?

Leah Garber:
Mr. Smith, my parents conveyed the importance of their beliefs and values by sacrificing of their time and their money to homeschool my siblings and me. My mom really instilled a love of God’s Word in me, and her example has inspired me to read the Bible on a daily basis—something that I know will bear fruit for the rest of my life. My dad engaged us in intellectually stimulating conversations from a biblical worldview on a regular basis, assuring his children that God and His Word are trustworthy.

Both of my parents have set wonderful examples in many areas, from diligence to joyful giving to a living faith in God’s love and sovereignty, and I know it’s easier to follow their good examples because they lived with us day-in, day-out. They would be the first to say that they weren’t perfect, but they not only learned from their mistakes, they took the opportunity to teach us from them as they went along. I know that ultimately my parents would credit their success to God’s grace and to the daily prayers that they have offered and continue to offer for each of us. I am so thankful for their love and care.
