The Heart of the King in the Hand of God

According to Proverbs 21:1, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” Our Founding Fathers saw this truth clearly in world events. Today on Home School Heartbeat, host Mike Farris has the story.

Mike Farris:
This week, we’ve been talking about the stories behind America’s early Thanksgiving proclamations. Throughout the Revolutionary War, Congress consistently attributed the success of their cause to God’s Providence. After years of conflict, when peace finally came, that too was from the hand of God.

The 1784 proclamation reads,

“Whereas it hath pleased the Supreme Ruler of the universe, of his infinite goodness and mercy, so as to calm the minds and do away the resentments of the powers lately engaged in a most bloody and destructive war, and to dispose their hearts towards amity and friendship, that a general pacification hath taken place, and particularly a Definitive Treaty of peace between the said United States of America and his Britannic Majesty, was signed at Paris, on the 3rd day of September, in the year of our Lord 1783 …

“The benign interposition of Divine Providence hath, on many occasions, been most miraculously and abundantly manifested; and the citizens of the United States have the greatest reason to return their most hearty and sincere praises and thanksgiving to the God of their deliverance; whose name be praised …”6

More than 200 years later, we still have the greatest reason to return praise to God for his faithfulness. I’m Mike Farris.
