Where is your mission field? When you hear the term “mission field,” do you automatically think “Africa?” You might be surprised to discover a mission field right in your own home! This week on Home School Heartbeat, Jason and Andrea Soldini join HSLDA President Mike Smith to discuss ministry-minded homeschooling.

Mike Smith:
Today on the program, Jason Soldini joins us. He and his wife are homeschool parents and authors of Homeschooling by the Book. Jason, welcome to the program.

Jason Soldini:
Thank you, Mike, I’m honored to be a part of your program!

Mike:
Well Jason, in your book, you talk about two different aspects of ministry—inward and outward. Can you explain what these have looked like in your family?

Jason:
Sure. Well, in Deuteronomy 6:7, God instructs parents to teach their children to have a personal relationship with Him. This is the parents’ call to children’s ministry. I would consider this an inward ministry, because it relates to our family.

But the process of teaching our children should include outward ministry, too. Outward ministry in our family has meant that we welcome and care for the stranger, by providing foster care. We look for opportunities to provide ministry in ways that naturally fit our family and in which we can all take part and grow together. We get to meet a real need and show God’s love and good news in a natural setting. We have fostered five different children in varying ages, from 13 months to 16 years old. Our children have been a vital part of the success of our fostering, and have even gained an adopted brother.

Mike:
Jason, that’s very commendable. Thank you for being with us today. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
