Have you ever yearned for more time to devote to Bible study or prayer? If the demands of daily life too often derail your best intentions, Zan Tyler has encouragement just for you, today on Home School Heartbeat with HSLDA President Mike Smith.
Mike Smith:
This week, author, speaker, and veteran homeschooler Zan Tyler joins me to bring encouragement to homeschooling moms who are seeking to walk in the light of God’s word. Zan, often homeschooling moms feel the demands of their families so constantly that it seems impossible to carve out time for a vibrant spiritual life. What would you say to the mom who is struggling to spend time with the Lord?
Zan Tyler:
Mike, there’s a great promise in Scripture, Jeremiah 33:3, that says, “Call to me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things which you do not know.” This is a promise that we can avail ourselves of, whether we have screaming children at our feet, whether we’re working together in math, no matter where we are, whether we are trying to buy curriculum that we can’t afford, the Lord says if we call to him in those circumstances, He will answer us. So prayer is a part of carving out time for God.
The second thing is just what we talked about yesterday, is that we have to spend daily time in God’s Word. And sometimes with little children, that means we read God’s word while they’re playing around our feet. We don’t always have the luxury of an hour of devoted study time, but if we will make God’s Word and prayer a priority in the midst of our difficult circumstances, God will bless us.
Mike:
Zan, that is very, very helpful. Thank you for joining us today! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.

God’s Word gives instruction, direction, clarity, and discernment. I’m really struggling with homeschooling, curriculum, and family issues. Does the Bible get that specific? Zan reminds us that God’s Word provides hope, encouragement, motivation, and comfort, and shows us how to draw these things out of Scripture.
