One of the benefits of homeschooling is that you as a teacher know your child better than anyone else. But letting your high school student experience other teaching styles could also be beneficial! Hear more, today on Home School Heartbeat with HSLDA President Mike Smith. Mike Smith: Dan Beasley: Mike: Dan: Mike: Dan: I do think I benefited in several ways from this more formal setting. One, it caused me to take more pride in my work. I knew people outside my immediate family would be reviewing and critiquing my assignments, and this motivated me to put a little more effort into it. I also feel the fixed schedule helped combat the urge to procrastinate. It forced me to focus, which also ultimately led to me learning more. While I loved the flexibility and wholesome atmosphere of being at home, I think taking a few classes in a more structured, formal environment was an excellent experience for me. Mike: |
