Public Policy Called For by the UN

The official UN position is that any gun ownership at all violates children’s rights. How could this impact responsible gun users in the United States? Find out, today on Home School Heartbeat with Mike Farris.

Mike Farris:
The official UN brochure No Guns, Please: We Are Children clearly lays out the kind of public policy called for by the UN’s view of children’s rights. It states, “Regulations are needed to ensure that small arms and light weapons are not easy to acquire and are never accessible to children.”

There can be no doubt of the meaning of that statement.

The official UN pamphlet then makes it plain that all nations need to “implement laws to protect children … from having access to small arms.” Moreover, the UN says that states should “collect and destroy small arms … through community programmes in which civil society plays a key role.”

The UN actively promotes the idea that small arms conflicts with the human rights of children protected by the CRC. The Small Arms and Children: UNICEF Fact Sheet describes a UN exhibit that is being shown around the world. Called Taking Aim at Small Arms: Defending Child Rights, the exhibit demonstrates the so-called “scourge of small arms and light weapons, emphasizing their prevalence worldwide and the toll they take on human lives—especially children.”

It’s clear that UNICEF believes that in order to comply with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the United States would need to adopt regulations that make it difficult for adults and impossible for children to ever own a private weapon. I’m Mike Farris.
