Do you want to teach your children about the men who founded American liberty? Author Marilyn Boyer, today’s guest on Home School Heartbeat, offers a resource to make it easier for you to teach the true stories of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Join host Mike Smith to find out more.
Mike Smith:
Marilyn, your new book, For You They Signed, is designed to make it easy to teach and learn about these important men who helped give us freedom. Explain to our listeners how your book is structured and what resources you offer to help parents teach it.
Marilyn Boyer:
Well, Mike, there are 56 signers of the Declaration. So the way that it’s designed to be used is families can study one signer a week, so it’s a little bit over a year’s worth of character studies. We have designed it so that there’s questions at the end of each signer, to apply the knowledge that they’ve learned.
And it also comes with a free 180 page e-book. And in the e-book, there are coloring pages for even little children in the family to color and hang on the refrigerator, so the whole family learns to identify the signers. There’s a Scripture verse and a character quality to learn each week, and then we provided fun quizzes for the family to have a family fun night and help cement the information in their minds.
It’s designed so that a dad or a single mom can just pick it up and use it. When they come home, they’re tired from work, they don’t have to decide what to do, it’s all done for them.
Mike:
Marilyn, this sounds like such a tremendous resource for parents. What an easy way to teach essential history! And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
