If you found yourself relocated to another part of the world, how would it affect your life? Many families experience this, whether from military and career moves, or, like today’s guest, in search of freedom. Hear more on Home School Heartbeat, with HSLDA President Mike Smith.
Mike Smith:
With me again today is Uwe Romeike, who moved his family from Germany to Tennessee to ensure that they could homeschool freely. Uwe, how has the cultural transition been for your family? Has being here in the U.S. changed the way you homeschool?
Uwe Romeike:
Well, as Germany and the United States both are Western countries, the cultural difference is not that big. But especially at the beginning, we missed some German food! And of course, as you can imagine, had a lot of problems with the language. And today we are still missing our relatives and friends, but thanks to God, it took not much time to make new friends and to find brothers and sisters in Christ here.
And homeschooling itself changed inasmuch as we now use an American curriculum, which is a big challenge for all of us. And of course now we enjoy the freedom to homeschool without the fear of receiving threatening letters. We are thankful for all the encouragement and support we got from friends and people around here that made the transition a lot easier for us.
Mike:
Uwe, your family’s dedication to homeschooling is truly inspiring. Thanks for joining us this week! We’re honored to be a small part of your homeschooling experience. Until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
