Mike Smith:
Today, our guest is Uwe Romeike, a German father whose conviction to homeschool brought him and his family to the U.S. from their native Germany. Uwe, welcome to the program.
Uwe Romeike:
Thank you, Mike. It’s a pleasure to be here.
Mike:
Uwe, would you share with our listeners how your homeschooling experience ended up being international?
Uwe:
Yes. We moved from Germany to the United States in August last year. And the German authorities nowadays punish homeschooling parents with increasing fines up to 50,000 euros, and repeatedly putting them in jail, or even taking away custody of their children. And therefore a lot of homeschool families have left their home country over the last few years.
So we had to make a choice of either putting our children into public school, or continue homeschooling in Germany with the risk of losing custody of our children, or leaving the country. So, after months of prayers, God opened the door to America.
We are very thankful for HSLDA and friends who helped us with the move and the asylum process. And we would like, or we would enjoy when you pray for the homeschooling families that have no chance to leave Germany.
Mike:
Uwe, thanks for joining us today. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
