This is an opportune moment to revive true American history! Find out how conservative author Bill Bennett is giving mainstream textbook publishers some competition for the minds of American young people, today on Home School Heartbeat, with host Mike Farris.
Mike Farris:
We’re once again talking to the host of Morning in America and the former Secretary of Education, William Bennett. All this week, we’ve been discussing his book, America: The Last Best Hope. Bill, you and the team of educators working with you view this as a great time to get out the true story of America. Why is that?
Bill Bennett:
History’s our worst subject, Mike. Our kids are bored to death. Can you imagine the American story as we know it, those of us who do know it, imagine these history books, which adults buy in enormous numbers, but kids think it’s a boring subject. And it’s their worst subject. I wanted to tell the story—the truth of the story, and with all the excitement and drama that this story possesses—all the great moments in American history, the truths about America, both good and bad. Let’s make the connection between our kids and this country more intimate and more knowledgeable.
Mike:
Bill, what will America be like if they learn the true history, compared to the scenario that they don’t? What’s going to happen to this country?
Bill:
You know, a recent survey pointed out people in America weren’t sure whether they wanted capitalism or socialism. If they read this book, they’ll know why we prefer capitalism to socialism! The future of this country depends upon our young people’s attachment to this country and its story.
Mike:
Bill, thank you so much for your work on this very important book and for your lifetime of holding up the beacon of freedom. I’m Mike Farris.
