What good is knowledge if you can’t put it to use? Once you’ve discovered your children’s learning inclinations, how do you implement them? A homeschooling mom has suggestions for you, on today’s Home School Heartbeat, with HSLDA President Mike Smith.
Mike Smith:
This week, Chris Tigges has joined me to talk about having a review with her children at the end of the homeschool year. Chris, have you been able to implement some of the suggestions that you came up with in your reviews?
Chris Tigges:
Well, Anna still does not have voice lessons. However, we have focused on giving her opportunities to sing as much as possible.
Joel has been taking drum lessons since September. After our family breakfast and devotions, he cannot wait to get downstairs and practice—still! We bought him the book on Virginia birds and we have two new bird feeders—let’s just say the birds have been fed well.
We found a local drama group that is helping Emily develop a new love for theater. Emily and Anna both wanted “down time” with their mom. And I’ve had a lot of difficulty keeping that consistent. A dear friend and I decided to start a group called Bright Lights, and we’re incorporating crafts in with gathering with our favorite friends. Accountability has helped make a difference.
Brandon—get this—Brandon ended up mapping out the process for a new software system which is now being tested by the U.S. government, working alongside his dad—rather than keeping up Zion Springs Orchard.
Mike:
Chris, thanks for joining us this week on the program! It’s been great to have you. I believe your suggestions will be helpful to many of our listeners. And until next time, I’m Mike Smith.
